Yakov Bogatin: Degrees of frostbites

January 20, 2010

I degree of frostbite (easiest) usually comes at short influence of a cold. The amazed site of a skin pale, after warming reddened, in some cases has a purple-red shade; the hypostasis develops. According to Yakov Bogatin skin necrosis does not arise. By a weekend after frostbite the insignificant peeling of a skin is sometimes observed. Full recover comes to 5 – to 7 day after the frostbite. First signs such of such a frostbite – feeling of burning, pricking with the subsequent numbness of the amazed site. Then appear a skin itch and pains which can be both insignificant, and sharply expressed.

II degree of frostbite arises at more long influence of a cold. In an initial stage is available paleness, the cold snap, sensitivity loss, but these phenomena are observed at all degrees of frostbite. Therefore the most typical sign – formation in the first days after a trauma of the bubbles filled with transparent contents. Yakov Bogatin is sure that a full restoration of integrity of an integument occurs during 1 – 2 weeks, granulations and hems are not formed.

At the II degree of frostbite after pain warming more intensively and more for a long time, than at the 1st degree of frostbite, disturb a skin itch, burning. At III degree of frostbite duration of the period of cold influences and temperature decrease in tissues increases. Bubbles formed in an initial stage are filled with bloody by contents, their bottom sine-crimson, tolerant to irritations. There is a destruction of all elements of a skin to development in an outcome of frostbite granulations and hems. The descended nails do not grow again or grow rather deformed. Tearing away of the died off tissues comes to an end on 2 – 3rd week then there comes scarring which proceeds till 1 month. Intensity and duration of painful sensations is more expressed, than at the second degree of frostbite.

IV degree of frostbite arises at long influence of a cold, temperature decrease in tissues at it the greatest. Yakov Bogatin reports that this type of frostbite is quite often combined with frostbites of III and even II degrees. All layers of soft tissues die and quite often even bones and joints are affected as well.
